Mr Audus Raynes, of the National Hotel, Cambridsrc, intends exhibiting at the Show on Thursday a very useful machine for saltiug meat. It consists of a small but powerful force-pump and tubing, a hollow, perforated noedlft being affixed at the end of the latter. The pump-feeder being filled with strained brine, the needje is inserted in the meat, and pressure brought to bear upon the liquid forces it through the flesh in a j trice, thus performing the work of salting in a remarkably short space of time. This of course is the merit of the machine, which i» an Engli4i patent, and imported by Mr Raynes' brother to Auckland. The pump would also be of great assistance in case of fire, the Iforce available being sufficient to send a jet of water over the hotel.
