LAST NIGHTS NEWS. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH]. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT .]

Auckland, Last Night. Supreme Court Criminal Session.— The Judge's Remarks. The criminal sitting of the Supreme Court opened to-day. The Judge in his charge said that the calendar was lighter than usual. The charge of minder on it might be regarded as accidental, and as if some wild beast had broken loose from a menagerie ; still, no impulse to crime would be held to remove the legal responsibility from the murderer. Another painful feature of the calendar was the growth of juvenile depravity and growth of larrikinism. One of the most difficult things he had to deal with in his capacity as Judge was the matter of juvenile criminals. His Honor made no other references to the cu&es on the calendar.

William Smith, of Whatawhata, sentenced to five years. William Smith pleaded guilty to forgery and uttering, and was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. Alexander Smith, a youth of 16, was found guilty of rape on Eliza Wenn, a girl under 10, at Ponsonby : sentence deferred. Elizabeth Harris and Cecilia Carroll pleaded guilty, one to stealing, the other to receiving goods from Mrs Richmond, of the Nevada Hotel.

True Bills. True bills were returned against Raro, for horse-stealing; King, breach of the Arms Act ; and John Saiusbury, selling warlike stores.

Abduction and Theft. A child of Mrs C. Johnston's, a bakers wife, of Newton, was decoyed into a grave yard and stripped of all its clothing.
