GOVERNMENT INSURANCE DEPARTMENT. TO THE EDITOR.

Sik, — I am very glad that my letter re I the Government Insurance Department ] has found a soft place, but I do not wish •to "bandy terms with any official any more than I wish to disparage a useful institution, as this undoubtedly ia. However, perhaps you will allow me to put myself right. In my previous letter I clearly supported forms, and defended the Department from any charge of undue formality, though Mr McDongh insinuated otherwise, neither will I admit the charge of misrepresentation. I stated facts as clearly as I could, and if I wrote with undue warmth I am quite ready to make the amend honorable. I cannot give dates, bub I affirm that shortly after the death, forms were obtained from the Ohaupo Post-office, duly filled np and presented at Alexandra Post-office, but it was found that the office there had already forwarded them, together with instruction* of death, which latter was particularly mentioned. Shortly after forms for identity were asked for and sent, and it was stated that the marriage certificate could not be furnished. Some time after the Commissioner sent particularly for marriage certificate. This having arrived, it also was sent. On September Id came a request for a formal intimation of death, and this brought out my letter. When Mr McDonogh says the certificate was sent about a week ago, he errs. It was lodged many weeks ago. but I will not contend for that, but I repeat that the Department might surely ask for all they want at once, and not in driblets. If I have atirred any one up, it will do no harm, and if not you shall hear no more on the subject for a good while, at any rate, from N. T. Maundee. Te Rore, Sept. 25, 1880.
