HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A full meeting of the Council was held last nijrht to discuss tho questions brought forward, at the last meeting by Cr. Peat, and* tre're ' disposed of iv the following manner : — 1. " That in future the roads be kept in repair by contract" : on the motion of Cr. Hill, the consideration of this matter was^doferred till next meeting. " '2.* Cfr7 Peat "moved, Cr. Hflt seconded, "T^hat'the office of* foreman of works be abolished ioi the present." 3. ' ' That the office boy be discharged. " —Carried. 4. * ' That the office expenses be reduced, and consider if expedient to reduce the Clerk's salary." On this being brought forward, the Clerk, Mr Gilling, asked leave to with--dranr whilst* this subject' waa under discussion, which was allowed. Cr. Hill ' moved, Cr. Peat seconded, " That the Clerk receive one month's notice, ; thb salary for the future to be £75, and that applications be invited for the office." On an amendment of the Mayor's, the salary was fixed at £100 to attend the office for two days a week. 5. •* That no new works be undertaken for a period of twelve months, &c." — Carried. 6. *' That it be advertised that the proper levels of such streets, &c." — Lapsed. 7. ''The lighting of lamps be considered. "—Withdrawn in favor of Cr. McGarrigle'a motion, " that Mr Peacock be employed as usual to sweep bridge, light lamps, &c." 8. "That all small goods for Borough use bo supplied by order, &c."— Lapsed, 9 "That all spare stores be^ sold."— Carried. 10. "That Mr Seddon's claim be settled, &c." Resolved that matter be left for Mr Seddon to take what action he thought fit. 12. "That the Council discontinue the Herald. ' ' — Lapsed. This was all the business.
