Alexandra v. Te Awamutu.

The cricket season commenced here with us on Saturday last in the Government paddock, where a first-class wicket had been prepared by our local Club, their adversaries being the Te Awamutu Clnb. The weather, although threatening in the early part of the day, at 12 o'clock, when the match commenced was all that could be desired. The play on the whole for the first match of the season was fairly good, and the two Clubs will doubtless have a tough struggle to secure the supremacy before its close. On the present occasion the stumps, unfortunately, had to be drawn at half-pist 5 otelock according to agreement, leaving the game undecided, but in favor of Alexandra by the first innings. Mr Grierson captained the Alexandra team and Mr William Bond the Te Awamutu. Mr Thomas Mole acted as umpire. The usual compliments at the conclusion of the game were heartily given and responded to by the rival teams. Tne following are the scores : —
