SOUTH AUCKLAND CATTLE BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held on Saturday, at the Farmers' Club, Cambridge. Present : Messrs. K. Maclean, (chairman) Fantham, Fergusson and Martyn. Inspector Runcimau also attended. The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Secretary proceeded with the correspondence. The first was a communication from the Colonial Secretary, accepting ' the resignation of Mr H. Buttle as member of the Board, and confirming the appointment of Mr W. Mai-tyn. The following letter was read from Messrs Morrin & fcJtml holme to Inspector Runciman :—: — Sir,— We arc desirous to h.ivethc proclamation on our Pi.iX» property remmed as sootus possible; and in order to adhrre to the law .«■. near as possible, we wish you would ask'thc Board to release the whole of the property, except tho paddock known as the lioiks, which X I)}' itselt, anil where the steers hn\ c been kept since their arrival. A declaration wass^ad frj^ S. penny, manager, few MeasFf MorTsßj&nd Studholme, declaisng that the <#vttle driven by Mr Payne to the Lockerby Estate had been kept isolated. Inspector Runciman, who had visited Lockerby Estate, submitted his report, defining the boundaries of the Rock paddock, the result of which was the restrictions were taken off the remaining portion of the Estate. A long discussion took place regarding Mr Payne's action in I'fcg.iin taking crtttte througlr the Waikato Land Association's Jaud, , ami on the Diseased Cattle Act Ain'epdfcnent Act, 1873, being referred to the Board, cleaily "thought he -mnw • liable- to w-penalty-xjf" 1 £500, but nq decision w»»come to whether action should be taken. A strong feeling, however, v - was^ manifested at Mr Payne's' ignoring the law ds he had done, and his conduct! received the highest censure of the Board. It was also reported by Inspector Runciman j;hat he, had sqen cattle belonging to the Waikato Latnd Association on thq, highway, and thought it might be attended with grave consequences, unless some steps were taken to prevent it. The Board instructed him to write to Mr Reynolds, manager, to keep a sharp look <j out, and keep cattle within boundaries. The Secretary jalso received instructions to telegraph to the Government, declaring the Rock paddock, giving the boundaries of the Lockerby Estate and infected places. Tho Board then rose.
