To prohibit the slaughtering of cattle, sheep, goats, or swine, in such places within the Borough as the Council may think proper, and to grant Licences ijortSlanghtcr-houses, and regulate and fix J the' fees to be paid to ' theßorougii Council Fund for such Licenses, and regulate the Slaughtering of Animals ' therein in sudPmafinor "as ftfoe- Council may think fit. }. On and after the Ist of November, 1880, no person shall keep a Slaughterhouse 'or place for slaughtering cattle intended for sale, barter, or exportation, except such house or place be duly licensed for that purpose in, the manner hereinafter provided. 2. Every person who shall slaughter, or cause to, be slaughtered, anj; cattle, sheep, or pigs, as aforesaid, in" any' house' 6r place within the Borough of Hamilton, not being a duly licensed Slaughter-house, or place contrary to the provisions of these By-laws, sbalf, forfeit and pay the sum of Five Pounds for every such offence. 3. Every license shall be in force from the date thereof until the 31st d.ay of December next following, and the person to\vbom the same shall bo granted shall pay to the Town Clerk the sum °f &3 3 s f° r every such license. 4. Foi the purpose of prefeefving cleanliness in licensed Slaughter-houses or places, it shall be lawful for any constable authorised by writing under the hand of a Councillor, or under the hand of the Town Clerk, Id Msfc and inspect any Slaughter-house or place for slaughtering cattle within the Borough, and to give such directions concerning the cleansing of such. Slaughter-house or place for slaughtering cattle, both within and without, as to himself shall seem needful. 5. If any butcher, or tho owner or occupier of any such Slaughter-house, or place for slaughtering cattle, shall obstruct or molest such constable in the inspection thereof, or shall refuse or nfiglect to comply with such directions within a reasonable time, every Such, person shall, upon conviction upon the information of such constable, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence or neglect, any sum not exceeding Five Pounds. 6. It shall be lawful for any Justice of the Peace, Inspector of Police, Inspector of slaugh-ter-houses, or constable duly authorised in writing by a e*ufHslvr!6rstb,e/>TorW( n Clerk, to enter at anytime any slaughter-house, or place so licensed, as aforesaid, within the Borough, where there shall be cause to suspect that stolen cattle have been, or are about to be slaugh?ered, and to make such search and inquiry as may seem necessary for the discovery of the offence and the offender. 7. That nothing hereinbefore contained shall extend to any pdfson or persons slaughtering at his or her own residence or farm cattle for his or her own use. 8. It shall be lawful for the Borough Council, if they shall sec occasion to do so, to prescribe the hours within which any such cattle shall be slaughtered, and to enforce an}' regulations sa~to be made in^hat.bphalf by a penally got exceeding' Five Pouifds. All fines and penalties imposed under the authority of the By-laws shall be recoverable in a summary way. 11.
