SOUTH AUCKLAND CATTLE BOARD.

A HiiETiNO of the South Auckland Cattle Board was held at the Farmers' Club on Saturday last at 11 o'clock. Present: Messrs Maclean (chairman), Fergusson, and Fantham. Inspector Runciman also attended. Miuufces of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, when the Secretary road the following telegrams relative to a mob of cattle that were driven through Hamilton on the 11th inst. to Messrs Morrin and Studholme's Piako station, and noted in the Waikato Times on the 12th inst. :— « 12th August, 1880. "To the Chairman South Auckland Cattle Board. "A mob of 115 cattle were driven from Hamilton to Piako along the road through the Waikato Land Association's land yesterday. What steps am Ito take ? "(Signed) J. Runoiman." " To J. Runciman, Inspector. "Ascertain name of owner of oattle. Wire to him his farm will be quarantined. You must procure evidence of the facts to lay before the Cattle Board which will be summoned immediately. " (Signed) E. Maclean, " Chairman 5.A.C.8."

After due discussion, it was resolved that the estate of Messrs Morrin and Studholme be declared an infected place under the, Order-in-Council dated 25th March, 1880, and the Diseased Cattle Act Amendment Act, 1873. It was ulso resolved that the following notice should be published in the Waikato Times :—"lt: — "It having been reported to the South Auckland Cattle Board by Inspector Runciman that a mob of cattle were driven on a public road through an infected place on the 11th inst., to the estate of Messrs Morrin and Studholme at Morrinsville, the Board hereby declare the estate of Messrs Morrin and Stud* holme to be an infected place, under the Order-in- Council dated 25th March, 1880, and the Diseased Cattle Act Amendment Act, 1873." Some surprise, even indignation, was expressed by the Board that the law should be so completely set aside by such a proceeding.
