TE AWAMUTU CAVALRY. Hamilton Contingent.

The usual monthly meeting of the Conting£nt was held on Saturday evening at Gwynne's Hotel. Present, Lieut. Johnson (in the chair), and about a 'dozen members of the troop. The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed, a letter was read from Trooper H. G. Hunt tendering his resignation as he was about to leave the colony. The resignation was accepted. An account for £1 3s from Mr W. K. Carter was pas&ed for payment. Sevsral nominations for membership were mad", the candidates to be ballotted for at next meeting. The Chairman then explained to the meeting the result of the late conference of delegates from the three troops at Ohaupo. In the first place the t^tyle of helmet had been decided on, to be made of blue felt, silver spike and chain with white plume. Mr Fenton's tender had been accepted, and the cost per man would be about 30s. The contract would be completed about November. Mr Pen ton had arranged to send one of his men up to take the measure of the different troopers, and he would be in Hamilton for that purpose on Wednesday. At the meeting referred to he had carried a resolution as follows: — "That in order to increase the efficiency of the men in shooting, a quarterly match be fired for a sweepstake, teams of five from each troop, and representatives to be chosen on the American system ; the first match to take place at Te Awamutu on Saturday, Soptember 11th ; the second at Cambridge and the third at Hamilton, and so on." The following prizes had b3m promisedlfor competition : — Lieut, tenant Whitaker, £10 ; Mr Moses, suit of clothes, valued at £5 ; Mr Peat, bridle, valued at £2. It was resolved that Mr Moses' prize should be competed for oaly by those who attended the prescribed nuinlec of sword drill?, viz, four out of «ix. It was resolred that the next shooting practise should take place on Saturday next, August the 28fch, at 10 a.m. The meeting thsn terminated.
