Wellington, Last Night. A shocking tragedy took place this morning, and is now the general topic of conversation. Matthew Henderson, an accountant, was arrested and charged at the R.M. Court yesterday, with larceny as a bailee and embezzlement in Christchurch, and was remanded and admitted' to bail. He was stopping at the Empire Hotel with a handsome young woman. Both appeared at breakfast this morning, and afterwards retired to their room. Some time later it was discovered that both Henderson and his paramour had taken strychnine. It turns out they had gone to the Registrar's dflice and got married yesterday, although Henderson is a married man with a wife and four children at Christchur<jh. ■ The case against Henderson was > called at the Court this morning, and as he did not surrender to his bail a warrant was issued for his apprehension. On the detective going to the Empire HoteJ at noon to arrest Henderson, the door was found to be locked. On breaking in the door he found Henderson and the young lady, whose name is Bligh (supposed to be the daughter of a stonemason m Christchurch), lying on the bed apparently dead. He ascertained they had taken strychnine, and emetics were applied, but without avail in the case of Henderson, who died in a few minutes. The lady ia still alive, but in a critical condition. v
