I think I ower an apology to one of our worthy Councillors. In -writing of him lately I dubbed him "potheen." This, should have read " podgieen," whioh being translated from the vernacular means "a moighty smart boye." I hope he will accept this explanation. By the way, I think Ma actions in the Council Chambers fully entitle him to the cognomen. I think I must congratulate the Council on their successful financing They have reduced the overdraft {vide Beale's oircular), from £560 to £687, they owe Seddon £375, sundry other creditors, say £138, total <£l&00 of liabilities; assets (rates), £420." Truly great work! But then Heajftfy Terrace is made ; V 's yard is ififled;- Price's and Davis road and footpaths complete ; and Jones' footpath well gravelled up. What have the others been doing ? I think it is about time to emigrate. r I think I can suggest a remedy to the Councillors: sell the Domain lands; pay the surveyor first ; then . compensate lessees for improvements and giving up leases: then plant the Park and Sydney Square. By this time the O.D. will be abotit £2000. Then follow my suggestion* emigrate -in a body and find another Borough willing to be ruined, and do the same thing over again. When the Council w«rer thus exiled I think Hamilton might get ahead again. Anyhow, I think my financing is as good as theirs,
