RAILWAY COMMUNICATION WITH CAMBRIDGE. Public Meeting. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Last Night.
A public meeting of the Cambridge North Township Highway District was held this afternoon in the Publid Hall to consider the question of railway communication in connection with the Commissioner's report and the Public Works Statement. Mr R. H. D. Fergosson occupied the chair. Speeches wore made by the Chairman, and Messrs Wells and Hicks strongly protesting againsf the action of the Government in delaying th© Cambridge line, especially after the Commissioner's report. The following resolution was unanimously carried: — "That this meeting view with distrust the action of the Government in making the vote for the Cambridge line an alternative one with that for the Morrinsville line, the Royal Commiswioners having represented the Cambridge line as one for immediate construction, and hope that the Government will re-consider their determination, and cause the Cambridge line to be commenced forthwith ; also, that this resolution be telegraphed to our member and the Minister for Public Works."
