IN THE LOBBIES. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.] [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT ]
Wellington, Last Night, 11.35 p.m. MlTi. B. WHTTE ON THE LAND BILL. In Committee on the Land „ ouits Bill, Mr J. B. Whyte moved and carried an amendment making the time for granting re-hearing three months instead of feix. On Mr Wood's motion re Native Land Sales BUI, Mr Whyte made a speech appi'oving of the Bill as an honest attempt on the part of the Government to dv away with the existing evils attending-. upon native land purchase* and to give bom Jttle settlers of moderate means a fair price for the land, but it was unworkable without some such provision as that of Mr Wood's inserted as an alternative. Without this* the effect would be to lock up the land, as few natives would put their land in the hands of the Waste Lands Board.
