The Small Bird Nuisance.
At a public meeting, held in the Court House. Raglan, on the 31st ult., to take into consideration the necessity of united action being taken by the settlers of that and adjacent districts for the abatement of the sparrow and other small bird nuisance, and the desirability, of a Farmers' Club being established, for the welfare of the various di&tricts represented by deputations. Mr William Powell was voted to the chair. , The Secretary having read the minutes and reports relative to former rnteting, discussion was requested thereon. Mr W. Duncan, of Ruapuke, remarked strongly ou the losses and depredations ! committed by the sparrows and other 1 mhhll bivdb mfroHuced by the Aeclima&s^- j tion Society, who were much to blame j for introducing such a pest, and in -which view the meeting- fully concurred, and that l,he Society should assist in lessening the evil now apparent to all. It was unanimously resolved that a free distribution of poisoned wheat should be made to all settlers on. their application.
