THE HAMILTON BRIDGE APPROACHES
TO THE LDITOB. Fir, — I perceive the Borough Council arc si ill perse vcriug in carting indifferent gravel to bolster-up embankment at we-t end of bridge ; the said gravel might «s well be emptied into the river. lam no engineer, but in my opinion the cheapest and most effectual way to make the embankment secure would be to lay four
or five longitudinal btringera about halfway along the embankment, closely planking same with say 18 ov 20 feet, 9 x 3, heart of kauri, with pitch enough to one side to carry the water off. A. wooden gutter should be placed underneath the lower end of the planking, with a small shoot at end of same to carry water clear of embankment. If this or a similar plan were adopted I am convinced that it would be a great saving to the Borough. — I am, &c, Bush Engineeb.
