MANGAPIKO HIGHWAY DISTRICT.
Thk Ratepayers of the above district held their annual meeting at Paterangi on Saturday, July 17th, at 2 p.m. On the motion of Mr. S. Westney seconded by Mr. J. H. Scott, Mr. F. C. Germann was voted to the chair, and the meeting was opened by reading the advertisement from the AYaikato Times. The first business advertised being the question of boundaries. A deputation from the Tuhikaramea district was received and the subject was introduced by the Secretary reading over the correspondence on the matter between the two Boards and the Government. Mr. W, Higgiuson proposed and Mr. Dillon seconded — " That the boundary be altered to the centre of the stream." Mr. Macky proposed as an amendment and Mr. Nabbs seconded — ''That the boundary be not ameuded. " Mr. Long (one of the deputation) spoke of the injustice of the px-esent boundary. Mr. Tisdall supported the amendment by stating the condition of things at the time of separation. Mr. Hadfield (one of the deputation) replied by showing that the boundary gazetted was> not generally known at the time or it would not have been accepted. Mr. L?gorwood propo-ed as a further amendment — "That the Mangapiko district pay the half-cost of a new bridge at Heather's Creek, the boundaries to remain as they are now, if the Tuhikaramea District Board will join the Mangapiko Board in getting the through road proclaimed a County road. ' On putting it to the meeting the last amendment got 2S votes, the first amendment one vote, and the motion ten votes. The last amendment was therefore carried. Mr Ti^dall proposed and Mr J. H. Soott seconded that the balance sheet be passed as read, and on it .show of hands, only one voted again t the motion. The following 1 ratepayers were duly nominated for Trustees and obtained the number of votes against their names. Mtsbrs Tisdall, lOi ;J. Gibson, 108; Ligerwooil, 102 ; Mucky, 99 ; \X. Higgiubon, 113 ; Harper, 32 ; Foster, 35 ; Robinson, 26. The tir.st five were declared elected. The Auditors and Fence Viewers for the past year were reclected and the meeting closed whh a voto of thanks to the outgoing Trustees and the Chair.- The new Trustees held a brief meeting after but it being very late, and heavy rain falling 1 , nothing but preliminaries were entered into.
