CAMBRIDGE FARMERS' CLUB.
The usual monthly meeting was held in the Club House, on Monday afternoon. Present : Messrs. E. McLean (Chairman), Hicks, Buttle, Kn lander, Fantham, Clark, R. Reynolds, and Capt. Runciman. Previous to the regular business of the meeting the question of the rail transit of cattle from the Waikato was read. It was said cattle sustained greater injury doing this journey than shipping coastwise, say from Napier to Auckland. Waikato cattle-owners had often been surprised at the price their beat,ts had realised in the Auckland market, and purchasers had remarked that the mere fact of cattle coming by rail from 'Waikato depreciated the value from one, perhaps to two pounds per head. Mention Avas made of how they were forced into trucks, and one member biiprgested that all cattle trucks should be as far as possible from the engine, so that at the frequent stoppages the trucks would be less frequently shifted or shunted, The question 01 slaughtering in the Waikato was also mooted, and will doubtless be discussed again at some future occasion. The Chairman having taken his seat and asked the Secretary to read the minutes of last meeting, which were confirmed, the- following letter and resolutions were read from the President of the Christchurch Corn Exchange and Farmers' Club, also a letter of Mr E. B. Bishop, extracted fiom the Lyltleton Tunes : — Corn Exchange and Farmers' Club, Christchuich, 22nd .11 1), ISSO.
