Annual Meeting of Ratepayers.
The annual meeting of the ratepayers of this district was held at the schoolhouse, Pnkeriniu, on Friday last, the 10th insfc. There were about 20 ratepayers present. The advertisement in the Waikato Tim*> convening the meeting having been read, Mr H. Buttle was voted to tha chair. Mr John Fi.sher, chairman of the outgoing Board, tlien read the annual statemeut of receipts and expenditure, from which it appeared thaj; the leceipts were made U]> as follows : — Balance in Bank, July, 1871), £'240 10s; rates collected, £394 ]4s Od ; arrears collected, £3 38s 9d ; (Government subsidy, £29(5 2s 3d ; ditto from Wai pa County Council, £236 4s od ; dei^osits on stopping roads, £10 ; ditto on contracts, £7') Us ; dog tax, £10 10s; contribution towards ditch, £4 10s; interest, £2 10s ; sale of material, £1 0s ; refund on freight, £1 16s ; ditto on postage, 9s 4d ; ditto on Nicholls account, 10s; laud in road stopped, £9 17s 9d. The expenditure was made up as follows : — Road formation, £ I SS 3.s 8d ; gravelling, £431 l!)s 3d ; bridges and culverts, £173 14s lOd ; sundries (including repairs to roads, fencing, salaries, commission, and advertising), C2>4 11s 2d ; balance in Bank, £229 7s Gd ; ditto in Secretary's hands, 3d • — A statement of receipts and liabilities from the Ist July to the 1 6th July, 1880, was also read as follows :—: — Receipts : Balance in Bank and with Secretary, £229 7s lid ; amount received from land comprised in roads stopped, £148 19s Id ; received from McEweu for breach of contract, £4 ; share of Land Fund Waipa County Council, £113 ]os 3d. Liabilities : Keep, balance of account, £2 2s ; Montgomery, £1 7s ; Lodder, £3 3s 6d ; Hosking, for plans, £33 : refund to E. B. Walker, £3 ; clearing, £2 10s; repaiiing main road, £5 ; draining, £6 ; tiles, £3 ; advertising, -£19 ; petty cash, 1 9s 6d ; legal expenses, £2 0s 3d ; balance, £421 17s 10(1. Deducting £138 16s lOd received for land on roads stopped, but net yet available for general purposes, a working balance of a little over £263 remains. After some discussion as to tho expenditure of the various roads and the nonconstruction of the promised bridge over the Mystery Creek, which it was alleged was owing- to the Hamilton Highway Board not fulfilling one condition of the promise, the balance-sheet as audited was adopted. ! The meeting then proceeded to the election of Trustees and other officers for the ensuing year witfi the following result : — Trustees : Messrs. R Reynolds, H. Buttle, E. W. Watkin, H. J. Turner, and Wm. Sturges ; Auditors : Messrs J. Gane and Edward Lake ; Fenceviewers : Messrs. John Fisher and Robert Watson. On tho motion of Mr Lake, a cordial yote of thanks was accorded to the outgoing Board for their care and attention to the various works carried out during the year. On the motion of Mr Fleming, the rate for the ensuing year was fixed at 3d in the L, and A vote of thanks having been passed to the chair, the meeting closed.
