WAIKATO CAVALRY. Meeting of Officers.
A meeting of the officers of the thre3 Troops appointed as delegates to discuss certain matters affecting ,the interests of the Cavalry, met at Ohaupo on Tuesday. The following were present: — Captain Rutherford aud Sub-Lieutenant Wilkinson, from Te Awamutu ; Lieutenant Johnson, and ftub-Lieutenant Hunt, from Hamilton ; Captain Runciimtn aud Lieutenant Fisher, from Cambridge, and Major Jackson, as officer commanding the Cavalry. The chair having been taken by Major Jackson, some conversational discussion took place on the questions the delegates were met to consider, Avhich were : the forming 'the sevei'al troops into one regiment, with a view to the more efficient working and management ; the desirablene»s of substituting a helmet for the present head-dress in use ; and the a'lvisabloness of assimulatlng, as nearly as possible the different uniforms of the Troops, and other matters of detail. Ie was generally agreed that any alterations made should involve as little expense as possible, until they were made acquainted with the views of Government on the hubjeot. This motion was carried unanimously. The delegates then proceeded to discuhS the subject of a helmet for the Cavalry, there being three samples to hand. It was then resolved, on the motion of Lieutenant Fisher, seconded by Captain Rutherford — That the helmet to be used be blue, with white horsehair plume and bpike, either to be used at pleasure. Major Jackson was requested to take steps to call for tenders for supplying the same, if possible to get them in time for the November drill. The other matters it was decided to allow to remain over for the present, and after a vote of thanks to Major Jackson for presiding the meeting terminated.
