HARAPEPE.

For tbe past week this district lias been shut out from the outer world, as on account of much rain the river Waipa has risen very high and drifted the punt on to the bank and there left it high and dry, and the new ferry-man is not able to work a canoe. The same cause, viz., the high river, blocks the road on the west side, ad all the creeks are flooded and impassable, and until the river falls we are completely shut in. A nice state of affairs, considering the trouble and expense that our local Board have been at to put the punt into a thoroughly good order and keep the traffic open. I think the Waipa County Council are very much to blame in the matter, as if proper help had been sent the punt need not be in the state it now is in. It will now be an expensive job to get it afloat again. I must say that after all our local experience of County Councils, the Road Board managed matters a vast deal better. Last Sunday the Rev. Mr Bruce was not able to get over here on account of the bad weather, in fact he deserves great credit for coming so often as he has done, frequently through very bad weather, to preach to a very small congregation, Our schoolmaster, Mr Oivnsby, is abont to leave, to take charge of a larger school

at Manjrapiko, and it ia'jjlso mpre convenient f»r him, being; war hiß.^arm. Tile people of the district will be -sorry to loss him, as he has given safcisfcMon to both parents nncl scholars, a rattier difficult thing to do I believe.— [Own COBRKSPONDENT ]
