ABUSE OF THE FOURTH ESTATE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Having seen some very inaccurate statements set forth iv the Auckland Herald, alleging misappropriation of the Hamilton Special Fund Account by the Council, and raising a scare that a rate of Is in the £ was likely to be the consequence, permit me to inform the ratepayers that such is not the case. This canard, like the other unblushing inventions now almost daily scan in the paper referred to, by the same author, under the heading of " Waikato District News," is set afloat with the covert design of creating an agitation having some object in view to secure some selfish end, and I warn the body of ratepayers against being'so easily befooled, j) This firebrand under the guiso of "correspondent," has brought more than one newspaper to grief, and now is fast bringing the i\ cw Zealand Herald into disrepute. — I am, &c, Ratepayer.
