A public meeting of the ratepayers of the above district was held on Satuiday, June 26% at Paterangi School-house, to decide upon the (stopping or otherwise of a number of roads, "which had been advertised under the Public "Works Act, iv the Waikato Times. Mr L'gcrwoocl, the chairman of the Board, presided, and opened the meeting by explaining the objf-ct for which they met, and reading the advertisement from the Waiicaro Tuirs convening the meeting. A long and useless altercation then took place, obstmction, evidently, being the intention of some Avould-be law e\pounderb, the Chairman thu whole while vainly endeavoring to make it clear to their apprehension that tiny were met for a specific object and nothing else. Road No. 21 in the advertisement, the middle road from Alexandra to Te Awamutu, was abandoned as be ng against the interest of the residents ; No. 1, through Mr JFinche's farm was closed ; No. 2, connecting Paterangi find Oh.iupo roads, through Mr Germ.am's property, it was decided not to close this road ; No. 3, through Mr Geimann's farm was closed; No. 4, through Mr Hall's farm was closed ; No. 5, through Mr T. Goodfellow's was left open ; No. G, between Mr A. Smith and Mr .Scott was closed ; No 7, through Mr A. ScottVwas closed ; No. 8, through Mr A. Scott's was closed ; No. 9, between Mr J. Scott and Mr A. Scott was closed ; No. 10, between Mr J. Scott ond Mr Mackay was closed ; No. 11 and 19, lunning from the Paterangi road between Messrs Scott and M.ickay, commencing with the Mangipiko htreain was not closed, as many deemed this one needed for opening a road acioss the district ; Nos. 13 to 20, inclusive, being all within the property of viessrs. W. and J. Taylor were all closed us being useless ; No. 21, through Mr Malcolm Taylors farm was closed ; No. 22, running across Mesarh. H. and J. Goodfellow's farm was closed; No. 23, running into Messrs. Bosanko's was closed; No. 25, running through the Paterangi School-hoiibe was closed. The usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
Board Meeting. Shortly afterwards the District Board met for ordinary business, all Trustees being present. The minutes being read and also correspondence, the Secretary was directed to ■write to the Rangiaohia District Board respecting a road through Mr Wesney's to the Punui, and state that the Board could not agree to the work. The year being so nearly ended, it was decided to leave the sale of l.'nds for rates for the next Board, the Collector being- directed to take the further proceedings necessary for seeming rates levied since judgment was obtained. It was resolved to call the annual meeting- for July 17th, at 2 p m. The accounts passed were : M. Dillon, £6 los ; Alexander and Hughes, £2 8s : TVaikato Steam Navigation Company £1 14s; J. Conn, £1 16s; Ormsby. £17 10s; McOullem, £41 ss; Newkausen £1 10s ; Rent, £3 ; Hesketh and Richmond £1 Is. Mr Tisclale proposed a vote of thanks to the Chairman, for hie courteous dig.
