WAI TO A HIGHWAY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the Waitoa Highway Board was held at the Nottingham Castle Hotel on Saturday last. Present — Messrs W.P. Chepmell (chairman), C. Gould, McDonald, Horrell, and J. Wood Aftor the usual preliminary business the Engineer reported that the new road from Larkworthy's towards Matamata would be available for traffic in the course of a we?k, the contractor, Mr Lyons, having all but completed his work, and that, too, in a very satisfactory manner. He recommended the continuation of the road through Messrs J. B. Smith's and Willis' properties. If this were done the main Matamata-road lying in the Waitoa district would be unfa it accompli. The Engineer received instructions from the Board to at once make an estimate of the cost of opening up the road from Morrinsville to the upper portion of th 1 ) Richmond Block, with a view of furnishing the Board with the necessary information to start the work forthwith, as a special grant has been given to the Board for the purpose of opening up the road. Instructions were given to have the battens on the Piako Bridge tab en up and relaid in a proper manner, they being at present dangerous. The Engineer reported that the road from Campbelltown to the Omahou landing is in need of immediate repair if traffic is to be kept open during the winter. Accounts to the amount of £200 were passpd for payment. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting of ratepayers on Saturday, the 17th of July, at tha Nottingham Castle Hotel. The Board then rose.
