THE NEWCASTLE HIGHWAY BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — I enclose you the text of a petition presented to the Newcastle District Board, and should be glad if you could find room for it and the names of those signing. The portion in brackets was lightly erased, but in such a manner as to be easily read. The erasure was initialled "J.8." The Board received this petition officially, but never had the common fairness to notify to Major Wilson or to me the serious charges contained therein. More than one of the subscribers has since told me they signed the petition without having read it, and they will now have an opportunity of getting a better knowledge of its contents. I also wish to expiess my astonishment at seeing attached to this precious document the, names of some ratepayers whom I always considered were too clearsighted and sensible to be blindly led away by wholesale misrepresentation. — I am, &c, Henry Bybon. Te Kowhai, loth June, 1880.
