Auckland, Last Night. The Brewers and the Beer Tax.
A meeting of the brewers of Auckland wtB held to-day at the office of Messrs Mowbray, Queen-s»treet, to conßider the proposed tax of 6d per gallon on beer. There wan a good representation of the trade. After pome discussion, it was moved by Mr Watson, and seconded by Mr Jagger — '- That the tax on beer hhould be 3d per gallon, instead of 6d aa proposed." This was put to the meeting aad agreed to. It was al««o resolved that a copy of the resolution should be forwarded to Mr Swanson. The meeting then terminated.
