ACCIDENT AT HOKONUI
A very painful accident happened at Hokonui on Tuesday. It appears that two daaghters of Mr Green, the eldest of whom is about twelve pears of age, who has a contract to supply the Swamp Company with timber, were out playing in the Hokonui Bush. The elder girl was holding the trunk of a cabbage tree which her little sister was endeavoring to cut through with a tomahawk. The latter aimed a blow at the tree, and not seeing her sister's hand, brought the edge right across the fingers, chopping off the tops of the first and second and severing the bone of the third. The poor little sufferer was at once brought into Hamilton, and put under the skilful treatment of Dr. Sandes, by whom the fingers were ampu, tated. The patient remains in Hamilton, and is doing well.
