SPORTING. CAMBRIDGE COURSING CLUB.
The fourth and last clay of the Cambridge Coursing Club's meeting terminated on Tuesday with the following results :—: — It will be remembered Princess, Pinfire and Venus were the only dogs left after Monday's coursing, and very great interest was manifested as to the probable winner. Piniire and Princess wei'e first leashed. Pinfire was first from the slips. The bitch then turned the hai-e, when an outside dog cannoned against her and knocked her over, and Pinfire killed : an undecided course. They Avere again slipped, and again Pinfire led and turned the hare, made a drive for a kill and fell. The bitch turned, made a drive and killed. The verdict was a second undecided course. Venus then ran a bye with Ivanhoe : the latter did all the work and killed. Pinfire and Princess for the third time got away, Pinfire leading, and, after scoi'ing point for point, was given in favor of Pinfire. Pinfire and Venus now ran for the first honor, and, lucidly, to a strong hare. A good race ensued : Pinfire first led, and turned several times, when Venus headed, turned her hare repeatedly, and ultimately killed. The silver cup thus goes to Mr Taylors Venus, with £10 prize money ; the second to Mr McCabe's Pinfire, of '£8 ; and the third to Mr Percival's Princess, of £4.
A gentleman who was given to boast ing and was apt to make critical comments on the company whenever ho was invited out, said to Jerrold, " I dinod at the Marchioness's the other day, and would you believe it, they had no H.sl. !" Jerrold thought a moment, and then replied, " Ah, well, I suppose it was all eaten up otairs."
