MAN G A PIKO HIGHWA Y DISTRICT.

At the monthly meeting of the above District Board, held on Saturday, 22nd May, the trustees present were — Messrs. Tisdall, Macky, and Legertwood (chairman). The business transacted being as follows :—: — The minutes of the last meeting were read and conlirmcd. The outward correspondence read and approved. The correspondence received was from the Chairman of the Rangiaohia District Board respecting the opening of a road to the Puniu River, through Mr Westuey's farm, in reply to which the Secretary was directed to apply for further information. Also, a reply from the Attomey-Gre-neral to an application from the Board for information as to certain proceedings [ under the Rating Act. The information being refused, the Secretary was directed to get the opinion of Messrs Hesketh and Richmond. Several petitions from settlers south of the Mangapiko Creek were also received. Mr Macky proposed and Mr Tisdall seconded — " That the rate of Is in the £, as advertised, be duly struck." The Secretary was instructed to advertise the public meeting of ratepayers, to consider the proposed stopping of useless roads as early as possible. The accounts were : — Mr Dillon, on account, £10 ; Waikato Times, £12 2s 6d ; J. Sage, £9 12s ; Meredith, £12 2s 6d ; Higginson, £1 15s ; Maunder, £4 19s. This concluded the meeting, the Board resolving to meet again on the day of the public meeting of ratepayers.
