HAMILTON-WHATA WHAT A ROAD. Public Meeting.

The following resolutions, carried at a public meeting held at Whatawhata on Satuiday last, have been handed to us for publication : — Resolved — That the following resolution be sent to F. A. Whitaker, M.H.E.:— H.i\ ing recci\ cd repent of deputation appointed at last meeting- to wait on F. A. Whitaker, Esq., we aic convinced that it is not nith that gentleman's sanction that the- public works tor the Whatawhata District ha\e been so Ions? delayed, no tenders having as yet been called for the blidge o\er the Waipa Rher, notwithstanding the money being \oted foi that puipose last session, and we still urge the necessity of having the woik commenced as soon as possible, as there are a great many unemployed about the district at the present time. We also \ icw with distrust spending money \oted for the Whatawhata and Hamilton-road in gravelling that part near Hamilton which is aheady formed and dry, instead ot calling for tenders for any part across the swamp. We believe that the importance of finishing this part of the Raglan and AVhatawhata- Hamilton road is fully understood by Go\ eminent, and particulaily by Defence and Public Works Ministeis, andbeg ' to l all attention to the fact that the road will drain and open up a large area of valuable lands of the Government near to the Hamilton Junction of the Waikato and Punui Railway. We tender our thanks to our reprcsentatn c'for his past endeavors in our behalf, and ask him to expicss our opinion to the proper authoiities.

"Billy Jones, "said a bullying urchin to another lad, " next time I catch you alone I'll flog you like anything." "Well," replied Bill, "1 ain't often much alone; 1 commonly have my legs and my fists with me." Men's lives should be like the day, more beautiful in the evening; or, like the summer, aglow with promise ; and the autumn, rich with the golden sheaves where good works and deeds have ripened on the field. The Echo says a son of the late Major Blackwood, H.E.I.C.S; and grandson of the founder of the publishing house of Blackwood will succeed the late Mr John Blaokwood ag bead, of the £nn.
