THE WAIMATE PLAINS. [BY TELEGRAMS, UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Thursday.
A Meeting of natives was held at Puniho, yesterday, when the Chief Motu addressed his people in a speech characterised by warm expressions of friendliness to the pakeha. He said he was more than ever opposed to Te TVhiti. About 150 natives were present, and some Europeans. The natives of the Puniho settlement show friendliness to4he Armed Constabulary, by constantly presenting them with melons, potatoes, &c. The road at Puniho is being' rapidly pushed forward by the united efforts of the unemployed and the Constabulary.
