The minutes of the preceding meeting having been read and continued, a letter was read from Messrs White and Hunt contractors for the first section of the Thames-Waikato Railway, asking that a road be opened near the station ground. The Board replied that they had no power to grant the same. A letter was read from the same, asking to take gravel from Whyte's road. Application refused. A letter was read from Mr Teas objecting to Mr Livingstone's work across the swamp as not having been done according to specification, showing that less work had been done than other tenderers for the same work took into consideration. A petition from certain Ratepayers asking the Board to attend to this matter was also received. The Engineer stated that the work was canned out according to specifications, and the work had been well done. Mr Teas' letter was referred to the Engineer. A request was received from a number of Ratepayers asking that certain works be done on the road past Teas' farm, and portions of the road be formed past Carley's, Kenney's, and Walsh's farms, also that the road near Kiddle's Hill be repaired and several small cuttings made near Powell's farm. The Boaixl agreed to take the matter into consideration as soon as the funds of the Board would allow them. A petition from settlers in Komokarau asking that certain improvements may be made on a road between Ngaruawahia, and Mr Patersou's farm. The petition stated that a portion of the road was already improved, but 2 miles still required tv be done, principally between Mr I
Nicolls farm and Ngaruawahia. The Engineer stated that the Government were aoout to lay out new roads in this part of the District, and it would tkeretore not be advisable to undertake further works of the kind asked, until the new lines of roads were definitely decided upon, The Secretary was instructed to write to the petitioners to this effect. An application was received from the Swamp Company, with respect to the bridge , over the Komakaraa offering a road to a more suitable site for the bridge, and asking that the Towhai road be put in proper order. The Board came to the conclusion, that they could do nothing until the read was legalised, and that when the road was fairly handed over, the Board wonld expend £50 in changing the bridge. It was resolved to place the road men on the drain on the Towhai road, and that the necessary timber for the culverts be ordered. This concluded the business.
