- AUCKLAND, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, McCarthy has been sentenced to six years for violently assaulting Cain at Mercury Bay. Sir George Grey informed Thames deputation that he intends going South to address a meeting of electors.
RUSSELL, Last Night. A public house and store, at Manilla, in occupation by William Greenleaf, was totally destroyed by fire. The store was insured in the South British for £159. Colonial has risk on stock, but amount not known.
OPUNAKE, Last Light. The Waimate Plains. The Honorable Mr Oliver, Minister for Public Works, accompanied by Mr Blackett, visited the camp atOeo yesterday. The working parties from that station are busily engaged on the road, and have taken up work at points they had reached when working from last camp at Otakero.
