Charles King, charged with assaulting one Isabella Millar, surrendered to his bail. Mr Whitaker appeared for the prisoner. After hearing further evidence on behalf of the prisoner, the Bench were of opinion that the prosecution had not sufficiently established their case, and would give the prisoner the benefit. A deal of conflicting evidence was brought forward. The prisoner was accordingly discharged. James Bregmen was brought up charged with violently assaulting and committing rape on one Adelaide Bregmen, on the 14th March. Prisoner pleaded not guilty. At the request of the Bench, the Court was cleared during the hearing of this case. Mr Whitaker appeared for the defence. Adelaide Bregmen, aged 17, stated that the prisoner was her father, and on the day mentioned interfered with her and dragged her into the bush. (Here the witness refused to give any further evidence). Michael Kendall was next called, but failed to substantiate the charge against prisoner, who was immediately discharged. The Court then rose.
