THE HAMILTON WESLEYAN BAZAAR FUND CONCERT.

Avert interesting entertainment of sacred and secular music was given on Tuesday evening in Le Quesuo's Hull, Hamilton East, in aid of the funds of tbe Wesleyan bizaar. Tnere wan not a very large audience, owing no doubt to the. fact that no programme had been published. The Revs. H. 0. Daviu and Jones were present. The first portion of the performance 1 consisted of aut oms, concerted • piece**, and solos, all of a sacred character, and commenced with an anthem which was sing by the whole company, and, fiom the excellent manner in which it wan executed, gave promise of the rare musical treat which followed The choir ha.*» evidently had a full ami careful training at tne hands of Mr Culpan j who was unfortunately absent oa Ineiday evening. The neoond piece was a solo by Mrs Gleeson, followed by a quartette, in which Mepsr* Wright, Meicham, Hedgecock, and Mrs Culpan took part. This Wa<» h 83lection from the opera of Mnritnnn, " Angels that around us hover." Thiwa-> nicely rend^ied, Mri Cul pan's voic holding its own wtll against tho*o of tin gentlumtn singing. Mr Wiight tli«»n gavH the »<olo f "The orphan's prayer,' with cont-Merable effect. " God be meioi ful '' was th n very efficiently lenrlererl by the comrauy, and Mis Culpau followed with the Bob, " He shall feed hU own like a shepherd. 1 ' This \ras ming with great taste and very ooneatly, and received the deserved applause of the audience. Mr* Culpan and Me-wrs Meacham and Hedgecuok and Mrs Gleenon sung a quartette, which was f-'llowed by a solO'frura -Mr Meaoham, " Ihe yoice in the wildf»rna-«." A quartette by Messrs Hodgecock, Wright, Meaoham, and Mrs Culpan was then followed by a folo from Mr Vincent, u Rooked in tbe j cradle of tho deep." This was well received by the audience, and the firat part of the entertainment closed with the anthera *• Praise ye the Lord," excellently rendered by the wholo company. The second part opened with a trio by Mr§, Glee^on and Mes-rs F. Treewhellar and Hedgeoock, '• Merrily rang the bells of St._ Nioholas tower." This was well executed, the cultivated voice of Mr Treewhellar telling with considerable effect. A solo from Mr Meacham, "The gallants of England," was then given, but not as effectively as might have been, lacking spirit, and suffering from the defect that the singer's articulation was anything but good. A duet by Mrs Gleeson and a young lady, " When the swallows homeward fly," was very prettily sung ; and another solo from Mr Vincent, of whioh nothing particular can bn said, was followed by a solo from Mrs Culpan, " Should he upbraid." This was so excellently rendered that the audience warmed up to an encore, and Mrs Culpan re&ponded with " I can scarcely hear," so well sung that we almost thought a repetition of the encore would have been insisted upon. Mr Treewheelar then gave " In happy moments," in good style, and with considerable taste and feeling. Mrs Gleeson's solo, "Yes, yes! tho*e charms so softly smiling," was a decidedly happy effort ; and in the duet of "Thegipsey countess," by Mrs Culpan and Mr Meacham, which followed, the lady's voice and singing shone to great advantage. A solo from Mr Vincent, and the National Anthem by the whole choir brought an enjoyable evening's amusement to a close. Wo must not omit to mention that Miss Culpan as accompanist, at both the piano aad harmonium, contributed in no little degree to the success of the affair.
