HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY PARADE.
Shortly after 7 o'clock 'on Tuesday evening Colonel Leckie, the inspecting officer, accompanied by Colonel Lyon, the the officer commanding the district, and Lieutenant Whitaker, of the Cavalry, entered the Oddfellows' Hall, where the company, with their n'ne military band, mustering 20 instruments, were drawn up to receive him. The full force of the company on the roll is 78, and there mustered on parade on Tuesday evening, 53 of all ranks including the band under Bandmaster O'Connor and Sergeant P. Henry. Colonel Leckie was received with the general salute, after which the inspection of the company commenced, Captain Dawson being requested to tell off the company and put them through the manual exercise. Colour-Sergeant Warren, as drill instructor, was called on to put them through company drill. The whole of the manoeuvres were very creditably performed, and Colonel Leckie expressed himself pleased with the general efficiency of the men, at the same time recommending them to pay more attention to perfecting themselves in bayonet exercise He then stepped to the band ; complimented them highly on their ability, telling them he was perfectly surprised that a band which had been so short a time organised should have arrived at such a state of efficiency, and that at the rate they had improved they would soon excell any band he had heard elsewhere in the colony. The parade was over by 8 o'clock, and the company was dismissed, the band striking up "God Save the Queen. "
