Ranges, 400 and 500 yards; 7 shots each; open only for the five highest aggregate scores belonging to each island, m matches 358 ana 12, who shall produce certificates of efficiency for volunteers' year, ending March 31st, 1879, carbines same as used at those matches. Carbine Challenge Cup to be held by highest scorer m winning team for twelve months, money prize with cup and highest scorer on lo3ing side receive a prize of £5. This match resulted m favor of the North ißlaad by four points. The scores are:—North Island : Volunteer Thomas, Thames, 56 ; Lieutenant Somerville, Wanganui. 67; Woolley, Auckland, 60; Burr, Wellington, 62: Lieutenant Gordon, Thames, 64 : total, 311. South Island: Winsett, Nelson, 46; Fathers, Nelson, 60: Shore, 62; Sergeant Thompson, Dunedin, 64 ; Hill, Christchurch, 65: total, 307. Match. — Nelson Naval Ist; Thames Naval, 2nd; Auckland Artillery, 3rd; fired on Saturday. This morning the 13th and 14th matches were won by the North—Somerville, 67; Thomas, 56; WooUey, 60; Burr, 62; Gordon, 64.
