REPLY TO QUERY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — For the iiif ormation of " One who wants to know you know," and the public in general, I beg to state that the malicious repoi*t circulated by Mr Jn. Knox, that Mr Prioe undertook, previous to his election, to get Clyde-street bridged and completed, is a most untruthful one. I had not even seen Mr Price to speak to, for weeks, until some days after I had nominated him,nor did he even request me to do so. Mr Knox is veiy apt to measure others by his own bushel. I have no doubt he would be mean enough to exact such a promise from any one nominated by him, but I am proud to say it has not come to that with me yet Of course, Mr Knox is well aware that I and all concerned have a perfect right to have the said road opened; and some time ago, as I was passing his shop, he actually came across the road to me, and quite unsolicited, told me that he was going to open it, to which I replied. I did not believe it, and walked on — I know him well. — I am, &c, P. Le Qttesne, Hamilton 2nd March, 1880.

TO THE EDITOE. Sib,— Had your correspondent ("One who wants to know you know") the courage to publish his name, I would have given him a flat contradiction to his malicious statement. I regret that your columns should be open to such gross libels from anonymous persons. — I am,&c, W.Pkice. [Our columns are under our own management, and we consider ourselves the bes>t judges of what is libellous matter. Mr Price should remember that although " One who waits to know yon know" is anonymous to him, he is not s>o to us. — Ed.]
