CAUTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I would, through the medium of your widely read and valuable journal, caution the public against a great danger placed in their way by the enlightened Corporation of the Borough of Hamilton. I allude to a chain placed across the Hamilton bridge, at the Toll House end, and securely padlocked. I understand that the toll collector, when he goes to bed, which is generally not till midnight, places this chain nightly across the entrance to the bridge. Of course it is quite invisible. There is no public notification up any where that a chain is placed across the bridge between certain hours, nor has such a notification appeared, so far as I know or can ascertain, in the Waikato Times. A stranger to the district, cantering down the cutting at night would, before he knew where he was, break his neck, and who would, be liable ? Why of course his Worship the Mayor and his sapient councillors, in the midst ot whom it appeal's is to be found more folly than wisdom. By finding room for these few words of caution you will confer a benefit on settlers and the travelling public generally, and po&sibly may be the means of saving life. — I am, &c, A Visitor to Waikato.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Your report of the Concert given here in aid of the Irish Famine Relief Fund, is a very garbled, discourteous statement, I, as one of the Committee, cannot allow such an insulting misrepresentaion to go forth to the public unchallenged. In the first place — Why select a few of the performers by name, and call them ' ' The selection most worthy of notice ?" Why insult the other ladies and gentlemen who gave their good and valued aid to " The cause that lacks assistance ? "—" — Shame on such a reporter. On behalf of the Committee, I again thank all, most sincerely, for their kind and valuable aid.— l am, &c, Rout. McVeauh. Cambridge, Feb. 2oth, 1880.

THh new Pure dish .S3 stem now bring initiaedt by G. and C. will certainly prove a benefit to the publir.
