AFGHANISTAN. London, February 20.

In the House of Lords an important discussion took place on the Afghanistan question. The Duke of Argile again attacked the policy adopted by the Government. The Premier replied, defending the course pursued, stating that Russia sought embarrass England in Asia. The duty [oi the Government was therefore to secm-e the gates of India. Such had been achieved. It was impossible to retire from Afghanistan, as anarchy still prevails in the country.
