Every company, including: banking and insurance companies carrying on business in New Zealand at the commencement of this Act sball at all times be represented by a pc son residing in che colony ; and a place within the colony shall be appointed from time to time by every such company as aforesaid at which any notice or other instruments affectingtLe comp my UDder this ct may be served or delivered. 1. Such pe.son shall be called the " Public Officer" of the cotnpaLy for the purpose of this /«ct, and shall be appointed as follows: — (a.) In the case of a company having a local Board of Directors or Managers resident in the colony, within tjiree months afte? the passing of this Act; (b) . In the case of a comnany not haying *uch local Board as aforesaid within six months after the passing of this Act. The office of PubPc Officer shall be kept constantly filled by the making of fre-h appointments thereto f om time to time as may be necessaiy. (2.) Every new company shall within three months after it t>hall commence or enter into business after the passing of this ct appoint a Public Officer, and name a place for delivery of notices as aforesaid. (3.) Every company failing 1 or neglecting, within the time hereinbefore limited in that behalf, to appoint a Pub ie Officer, or name a place at which notices or ether instruments may be served or delivered as afoi esaid, j-hall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds a day fop every day after the time aforesaid during which such neglect shall continue.
