CAMBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

The annual meeting of the Cambridge Public Library was held in the Reading Boom on Tuesday evening. Mr Heany occupied the chair. The minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary read the report and balance sheet for the jear 1879. Your committee have much pleasure in reporting that since the last annual meeting the library has been incorporated under the Public Libraries Powers Act of 1875, and is now a corporate body. Your committee have also much satisfaction in stating that the library has been steadily progressing during the course of the past year, not a month having passed without new members having been added to our number, more than sufficient to supply the place ef those, who, having left for other farts necessarily caased their connection with the library. The number of subscribers during the year has been 160, and the amount of subscriptions received £59 Bs. One hundred and forty-seven new volumns have been added, and 2540 voluxnos have been issued to subscribers in the course of the year, and your committee embrace this opportunity of thanfcfully acknowledging the receipt of donations of books, &c, from Colonel Lyon, Major Wilson, and Major Hay. Your committee are also happy to report that they have been enabled, out of the subscriptions received, to pay off the loan of £3 •, received by them from the Bank of New Zealand in 1878, for the purpose of erecting and improving the piesent premises, and this sum being now paid off will enable the committee for the current year to add to the requirements of the library and reading room in a much larger degree than formerly, and the outgoing committee hare much pleasure in handing over to their successors a clear balance sheet with a small surplus in hand. Bd. Audited and found correct, Tames Hali.y, ) \,,au,,*H. M. D. Plarson, I Audltors - The report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted on the motion of Mr Aahwell, seconded by Mr Lambert. Mr Heany proposed, and Mr Hicks seconded, " That Messrs Lambert, Scott, J. P. Campbell and Collins be members of the corporation.'' Carried. Mr Walter Soott proposed, and Mr Ashwell seconded, " That Messrs Heany, "Wright, Lambert and Johnson be the committee for the ensuing y ew.' ' Carried. Votes of thanks wore passed to Mr Johnson for taking the trouble to go to Auckland to get the library incorporated and to the outgoing committee. Messrs Walter Scott and Ashwell were elected auditors. Subsequently the new committee held a meeting, and" re-appointed Mr Heany chairman and Mr Dods secretary. It was also revolted that two additional copies of the Herald and one of the Aitstralitoian'ho obtained for the reading room. The secretary was also instructed to call a meeting when required.
