A controversy is going onin the newspapers relative to the alleged destructive proclivities of the many kinds of small birds in. eluded in the Acclimatisation Society' sliipmenta on the way from England. Some hold the opinion that they will be a second dose of sparrows. On Thursday evening the Canterbury Coursing Club received 28 nominations fo r the Derby for an unlimited number of dog puppies, at five guineas each. For the Oaks an unlimited number of bitch puppies at five guineas, 20 entries.
