DESTRUCTIVE FIRE
a four-boomed cottxgb and a wheelwbight's shop burnt to the gbouxd. Between 1 and 2 o'clock this morning a fire broke out in Mr Swarm's wheelwrights and blacksmith's shop, East Hamilton. From the few meagre facts to hand it appears that the fire originated in the blacksmith's shop, and from the combustible nature of the material used in the wheelwright's department it soon spread with great rapidity to an adjoining four-roome d cottage, owned by Mrs. White, which was soon enveloped in flames, and before assistance arrived the the fire had taken a firm hold, and the buildings were soon levelled to the ground. Mrs White had a very narrow escape, and only saved a few articles. A ll the things in the shop were destroyed, which must be a severe loss to Mr Swarm. Constable Murray, and Messrs. Robert Harris, Walnut, and Williams rendered valuable services in keeping the fire from spreading. We hear that the buildings are insured, but only for a small amount.
