LORD DERBY ON PROTECTION. London, January 9.
The Earl of Derby, speaking at Huddersfield to-day, referred to the agitation in f avour of protection as a remedy for the distress and depression of trade in England, his Lordship said he was averse to the proposal for protection, and predicted that the protective policy of some of the colonies would eventually fail.
