SALE OF RACEHORSES.
At the Haymarkeb, on Saturday, a considerable number uf the horses which competed in the Summer Meeting at Ellerslie, were offered for sale, but the competition was by no means brisk, and the principal lots were withdrawn, the reserve price not being reached. The following is the result of the sale :— The first offered was Mr K. Farmer's chestnut mare Lady Elizabeth, 4 years, by Teranga, dam Ladybird. She was for sale without reserve. She was started at £30, and was bought by Captain Ferguason, of Waiuku, for £35. The next offered was Mr Farmer's chestnut filly Lady Gertrude, 3 years, by Papapa, dam Ladybird, she was started at £25, and bought by Mr Allen at £42. Mr i.ay'a string -was then offered, uhe first put up being- the wellknown racehorse Templbton, which was started by Mr Prince at 300 guineas, on which there was no advance, and ho was passed in, the reserve being 500 guineas. Maritana was plso started at 300 guineas, but no bid was elicited, and she was passed at the reserve of 400 guineas. The Australian crack steeplechase horse Lone Hand was brought forward, and a good deal of interest was manifested. H e was started by Mr Prince at 300 guineas, and the bidding ran up to 375 guineas, the prinoipal bidders being Messrs Prince and butler, but he was passed in, the reserve being 400 guineas, the owner refusing to take less for the horse. Mr G-. Donne's Sinkinsr Fund, by Towton, dam Phooabe, was started at £100, and passed in at the reserve of £150, no bid being made. Mr S. C. Caulton's horses were next offered without reserve. Gillie Oallum started at the modest figure of £15, and was *nocked down to Mr tfuckworth at £28. 'Jregeagle 11. was also started at £15, and was bought by Mr R. Blair for £31. Mr Mclvor's steeplechase horse Grey Momus and the racer tfalmoral were offered, the former being started at £100, the highest bid obtained was £130, and he was withdrawn, the reserve on him being £20'». Balmoral was also started at £100, and the bidding reached £140, at which he was passed in, the reserve being £250. The bay gelding flata, 5 years, by Opawa, out of Maggie Lauder, was started at £50, and the bidding ran briskly to £100, at whioh there was a pause, and the horse was about to be passed, the auctioneer announcing that tis reserve was £150, upon which Mr F. Matthews offered £125, at which he was, with the owner's consent, knocked down. Introduction, a brown filly by Sir Walter, dam Atalanta, was started at £50, but there was no other bid and she was passed, the reserve onhor being £100. This concluded the sale.
