The Raglan Christmas 'sports took place at Wai te tuna on Monday, the 22nd inst., with the following: result: — Judgro, N. Bnhs, Escj Stewards: Messrs Pearson, Gilmour, Kinpr, Sutton^ Wilson, I aTrobe. Starter: W. F. Pearson, Esq. Clerk of Course: Mr Charlion. Clerk of Scales: Mr Ivane. 1. Hxtrdlk Race. — £a; twice round tho course ; over eiarht flights of Irai'dlcs 3ft. 6in. high; weight, 'Ist. All winners to carry T.'st. 71b.; second horse save his stakes. i Valentine . '. . . 1 Destiny • . . . . . . 2 j Screwdriver ,', o ! In this race Destiny bolted, throwing her rider. Screwdriver refused tbe first jump. The race should have betn Destiny's if she had not bolted. 2. Settlers Purse. — £6. Distance, 1J miles: weight, list. Second horse save stakes. • , Wata Maori . . 1 Charley . . . . . . 2 Maori Boy 3 j - Dick .." .^ .. W<i Wata Maori was disqualified, owing to this race not being open to horses beyond the foot of the range, Charley consequently took the stakes. * 3. Waitetuna Stakes. — JE4. Distance, 1J miles ; weight, list. * Destiny ... . . . . 1 Taipo .. . . ' ... .. 2Takiwa . . . . . . 3 Easy race for Destiny. 4. Pony Race.— £4. For all ponies 14| hands ; 4lbs. allowed for • every inch under ; weight, lOst. Three heats, Maori Boy . . . . ... 1 Pony . 2 Mate . . . . . . . . 3 Taipo 4 Maori Boy won as he liked. 5. Trotting Bace— £4. Distance, 3 miles; horse to be turned every time he breaks; weight, 12st. Darkey . . . . 1 Nigger 2 Tommy 2 Storkings . . . . 4 Easy rßce for Darkey. 6. Pony Rack— £2 10s. '. . 2 Muritai ... . . . . 3 Moss Rose 4 This was the best contested race of the day, the winning pony jnst gaining- it by half a length. 7. Consolation Stakes, for all beaten horses. Pony .. 1> ■ This concluded the race programme, and the visitors adjourned for the foot racing and jumping <\ great number, of people we e present, principally natives. ' The greatest good feeling prevailed throughout the day. Mr Sufcton, of the Half-way house, had a temprance booth on the course for tho accommodation of the public. -Mr Wiley, baker of Kaglan, also was a cate<erfor the public.
