EAST HAMILTON.
The annual sports at East Hamilton were held as usual on Boxing Day. For so many years' these sports have been held in the same piace that it is now loolied upon as a necessary adjunct to the Christmas holidays — a place where the old identities can meet and fight their battles o'er again, and further cement the ties between .old and new: There was a larger gathering of the old Waikatos at East Hamilton on Boxing Day than has been seen for many a year, and these, with the great aascm-, blage of newer settlers, made up quite a large gathering to view the sports, *vhich were conducted with tho utmost good humor and decorum throughout, and though the Hamilton police force was fully represented^hdaded by their genial Sergeant, their services fortunately were not required. ' Great disappointment was felt at the abseuce of the Band of the Hamilton Light Infantry— a part of which* was away at Whatawhata Races— and the conduct of some of them ai; leaving Hamilton, in defiance of orders, on such a holiday as Boxing Day, was freely commented on by those present. The committee of the sports — Messrs Pearson, J. Coombes, Tippin, Williamson, and Pascoe — won golden opinions during the day for the able and efficient manner in which they performed their SD-veral duties.
