Holiday Trains.— We would draw the attention of the public to the time table of special trains on Boxing and New Years Day and during the holidays, to be found in our advertising columns. Tub Melbourne Saturday Night is becoming very popular in this dist-ict, a large number being circulated widely in Waikato from the office of the agent, Mr W. B. Langbvidge, in Auckland. Waitoa Highway District. — <The meeting of ratepayers for the election of trustee takes place to-day at 1 p.m. at the Nottingham Castle Hotel. Hamilton Town Land Sale — Tp-day Mr Kennedy Hill will offer for sale the p'easantly and centrally situated town estate of Mr Charles Johnson, consisting.of four acres of land in the very heart of the borough. The property abuts close on the Hamilton Bridge, and has on it a substantial well built cottage. Allotment , )10, Hamilton \frest, comer of Victoriastreet and Station Koad will also be offered. Mr Hill will hold a produce sale of -geese, poultry, new potatoes and furniture. Waikato Hand Book — Mr Eanderson has been appointed agent for Cambridge, and ia prepared to enrol the names of intending subscribers. It is intended to fill up the subscription list by the 31st inst. 'An express will meet every train arriving in Auckland to collect parcels consigned to " Hanson's Parcel Delivery," which will be delivered in all parts of Auckland of 3d each for small parcels under 2olb weight and of 6d for those up to lewt. within a certain radius, larger loads by agreement. Hamilton Bridge Tolls — The right of collecting the tol's on the new bridge at Hamilton, for the month of January, was sold by auction on Thursday by Mr Kennedy Hill, to Mr E; Land, for the sum of £42, being £2G less per month than the ferry tolls were sold for on the last occasion. By order of the Council, the only councillor who protested against the proposal being Councillor Cumming, the

right of collecting 1 the tolls on the bridge at punt charges, for the remainder of the month was made a present to the lessee. It is satisfactory to find that the finances of the Borough are in so flourishing a condition as to allow of this being done. A mketing of the members of the Sons of Ulster Lodge will be held oil-Tuesday evening, in the Victoria Hall, Hamilton. This Cabandini Operatic and Bahad Company at 'Cambridge. — This world-ro-nowned and justly popular company appeared , at our Public Hall on Wednesday and Thursday evoning, and notwithstanding the gloomy appearance Qf the •weather, the attendance vraa excellent on both occasions. The programme included selections from grand operas, English, Irish, and Scotch songs, which were all liatenod to with deliarht. Madame Caran-' dini's flue soprana and her daughter's charming fresh voice were heard to great advantage in the pieces selected. Mr Grordon Grooch, who has recently returned fr»m 5 years study in England, whosepowerful bass voice is so admirably adaptod for the songs allotted him, and sang in grand style. The applause throughout the evening was most hearty ; encores were numerous, which were in most instances kindly responded to by the artists. The whole entertainment was a rare treat for the people Qf ! Cambridge. The company give their farewell performance there on Saturday evening, when, doubtless there will be a large attendance, lhey also appear at' Ngarauwahia on Monday evening, which -will be their final appearance in the district. . Messrs E. Porter & Co., of Auckland, importers of agricultural implements, and machinery of all kinds, announce that they have on hand a' variety of useful agricultural and harvesting implements suitable for tho present season. Cambridge Branch Railway. — At a meeting held on Thursday evening in the Farmers' Club,.CaAil>ridg l e, it ■was resolved to hold a public meeting to-day at 3 p.m , when resolutions would be submitted with the view of forming a company for the undertaking of the above work. Capital Frightened Away — The Dunedin Herald learns upon good authority that £800,000 forwarded to Canterbury for investment will bo withdrawn should the property tax be imposed. A gentleman'now in Dunedin, with £50,000, hesitates investing £36,000 in an estate until he sees how matters vill turn out. £100,00* sent from Melbourne for investment here will; bs returned to the place from -whenco it came should the Property Tax- Bill become law. This ia not a very encouraging state of affairs. > East Hamilton School. — The \ examination of tho pupils of the above school was proceeded with yesterday, and the prizes will be awarded at noon 1 to-day by Kirs Gumming, if the weather prove fine, at Kosemont, but in the event of rain at Le Quesne'g Hall, the use of which has been given by the proprietor if required. A promenade concert, in aid of the funds to defray the . cost of prizes, will take place on Tuesday evening, if the weather fee fine in Mr Grwynne's gardens, but if wet in Le Quesne's Hall.
