KIHIKIHI.

December 19. The erection of a new Catholic Church here, which has been for some time contemplated, is now about to be realised. Large quantities of timber are now being stacked in readiness and it is expected' that in a few days hence tenders will be called for the work. The site chosen is near the old church ; it is central, with a good commanding elevation, aud will, when completed, do much to improve the appearance of the township. The committee appointed here.a tew evenings ago to get up amusements for the approaching holidays,

I have resolved to have as large a social gathering as possible on New Years Day. The school children, with their parents and friends of the neighbourhood aro all to be invited to a picnic, to be held in pome convenient and secluded spot amongst ! the many groups of peaoh trees that circle in the nooks and corners of this quiet township. Athletic sports are also on the programme. The Te Awamutti Jbnnd will, it is expected, enliven the happy scene. , Our Town Board have now any amount of work on their hands. Parties of the Armed Constabulary are hard at it with pick and shovel, under the supervision of a competent engineer, improving- the drainage, levelling, and cutting down hills — works which are indispensably i necessary, and which the Board could nob possibly undertake if they were to pay for labor, in consequence of their very small revenue. —[Correspondent,]
