CRICKET.
, Proposed County. Matches. On Saturday the Hamilton Club sent a team to Cambridge to try conclusions with the A.C men, but the game, owing to the dreadful weather, was thoroughly spoiled. In spite of the rain the match was commenced, and the A..C. men had an innings, being all disposed of for the small total of 19 runs, the bowling on the wet ground being very destructive. The Hamilton men lost three wickets for 5 runs, when the heavy rain quite put ah end to any further play, and the game ended in a draw.. The visitors were entertained by the home team at luncheon, laid in ' hoßt Rayne's well-known style. In the afternoon a meeting of cricketers was held for the purpose of considering the best means of promoting cricket in the district. There were some 18 or 20 present. Mr T. G. Sandes was called to the chair, and said he had asked the cricketers to meet to ascertain their opinions as to the desirability of forming county teams in Waipa and Waikato counties, so as to bring out the best local talent that may exist throughout the district. After having given his reasons it was unanimously resolved, " That county matches be initiated, and that the following gentlemen be chosen to represent their Clubs, and make arrangements for the first match:—Cambridge CO., Mr RfcTntosh ; A C.C.C., Mr Copeland; Hamilton (Waikato) CO., Mr J. Wood; Hamilton (Waipa) 0.C., Mr T. G. Sandes; Ngaruawahia CO. and Whatawhata CO.,*" Mr Soper; Te Awamutu CO., Mr Grierson; Tuhikaramea CO., Mr Lang; Alexandra O.C, Mr Connell; and Waitoa CO., Mr N. Hunt." Beaolved, " That the first match be played at Cambridge on Wednesday, the 17th December, and that play begin, at 10 a.m. sharp." A meeting of three representatives from each county was then held, when Mr Mcintosh was elected honorary secretary pro tern., for Waikato, and Mr T. G. Sandes for Waipa, and the selection of teams was arranged to take place after communicating with those representatives who were absent. A vote of thanks was given to Mr T. G. Sandes for the step he had taken in bringing the matter forward, and it seemed to be agreed on all sides that the proposal would materially assist in promoting cricket generally in our district. —: [Correspondent.]
